DESCRIPTION:I will give a brief overview of the main results concerning top
 ological methods for singular Liouville equations on compact surfaces\, an
 d I will show how to extend some  of  them  to  special  elliptic  systems
 .   My  analysis  will  focus  on  sharp  forms  of  the Moser-Trudinger i
 nequality and on mass-quantization results for the SU(3) Toda System.
