DESCRIPTION:We are interested in ground states for the nonlinear Schröding
 er-equation (NLS) with an interface between two purely periodic media. Thi
 s means that the coefficients in the NLS model two different periodic medi
 a in each halfspace. The resulting problem no longer has a periodic struct
 ure. Using variational methods we give conditions on the coefficients such
  that ground states are created/prevented by the interface.
