SUMMARY:Seminar in Numerical Analysis: Heiko Gimperlein (Heriot-Watt Univer
 sity)
DESCRIPTION:Diffusion processes beyond Brownian motion have recently attrac
ted significant interest from different communities in mathematics\, the p
hysical and biological sciences. They are described by partial differentia
l equations involving nonlocal operators with singular non-integrable kern
els\, such as fractional Laplacians. This talk discusses the challenges of
their approximation by finite elements and discusses our recent results o
n the a priori analysis of h\, p and hp-versions for the integral fraction
al Laplacian\, as well as their preconditioning. \\r\\nFor further inform
ation about the seminar\, please visit this webpage [t3://page?uid=1115].
