SUMMARY:PASC18: Scientific computing at its best through “Fast and Big Da
 ta\, Fast and Big Computation”
DESCRIPTION:The PASC (Platform for Advancing Scientific Computing) Conferen
ce is an international platform for the exchange of competences in scienti
fic computing and computational science\, with a strong focus on methods\,
tools\, algorithms\, application challenges\, and novel techniques and us
age of high performance computing. PASC18 (pasc18.pasc-conference.org [htt
ps://pasc18.pasc-conference.org]) is the fifth edition of the conference s
 eries\, and will be held in Basel\, Switzerland\, from July 2 (9:00 a.m.)
to 4 (6:00 p.m.)\, 2018 at the Congress Center. It is expected to bring to
gether over 400 experts in scientific computing from all over the world. P
ASC18 is co-sponsored by the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and
the Swiss National Supercomputing Centre (CSCS). The PASC18 theme is “F
ast and Big Data\, Fast and Big Computation.” “Large computations cons
ume and generate massive amounts of data\, and processing of big data requ
ires large amounts of computational power\, which increasingly depends on
parallel computation\,” explain Florina Ciorba and Erik Lindahl\, the PA
SC18 Co-Chairs. “The PASC18 theme emphasizes our vision of the close cou
pling of data and computation. Exposing and expressing massive and irregul
ar parallelism in computational problems are key challenges for exploiting
the massive and heterogeneous parallelism available in current and expect
ed in future HPC systems\, as well as to find new ways of generating scien
tific insight from data and models. Through its rich\, diverse\, and inter
active program\, PASC18 will highlight the computational approaches that c
omputational scientists\, computer scientists\, and practitioners employ t
oday and will employ over the next decades to address these challenges.”
  The PASC18 technical program (pasc18.pasc-conference.org/program/schedule
 / [https://pasc18.pasc-conference.org/program/schedule/]) is organized aro
und eight scientific domains: Chemistry and Materials\, Climate and Weathe
r\, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics\, Emerging Domains in HPC\, E
ngineering\, Life Sciences\, Physics\, and Solid Earth Dynamics. Over the
course of three full days\, the program includes\, technical sessions with
  keynotes\, panels\, minisymposia\, peer-reviewed papers and poster sessio
ns. Full papers are published in the ACM Digital Library. We look forward
to advancing scientific computing with you at the Basel Congress Center on
  July 2-4!
