The University of Basel has set itself the goal of being a family-friendly, equality-oriented, non-discriminatory and barrier-free university. The Department of Mathematics and Computer Science actively contributes to shaping a diverse and inclusive university through a variety of initiatives.
Since 1998, the University of Basel has had its own Office for Diversity & Inclusion. Since then, the unit has been working continuously to make the university more inclusive for students, researchers and staff. This includes the following seven goals: Appointing more women, acting in a family-friendly manner, protecting personal integrity, strengthening intercultural skills, promoting diverse careers, enabling barrier-free studies and making the university inclusive.
In addition to the University of Basel, the Faculty of Science also maintains a commission to promote the different experiences and perspectives of all members of a diverse university. All departments of the Faculty are represented in the committee.
