Department

History

In 2010, the Department of Mathematics and the Department of Computer Science merged to form the joint Department of Mathematics and Computer Science. With this merger, the Mathematical Institute with its centuries-old history and the young and growing Department of Computer Science were merged into a single organisational unit.

At the beginning of 2015, the department moved from its previous five locations to its new joint domicile at Spiegelgasse 1/5. At Spiegelgasse, the department has workplaces, seminar rooms, learning places for students, computer laboratories, and a library.

Currently the department has 16 professorships plus three SNFS professorships.

04_2019Prof. Julia Vogt (assistant professor of adaptive systems and medical data science) leaves the department to accept a position at ETH Zurich.

05_2018A new assistant professorship in statistics (non-tenure track) is created to support the development of the research focus on stochastics.
