International symposium to mark the completion of the printed Euler Edition

The Euler Commission has been publishing the works and correspondence of the mathematician Leonhard Euler (1707–1783) for more than a hundred years. The publication of the last printed volume is celebrated with an international symposium.

To mark the completion of the printed edition of Opera Omnia, the Bernoulli-Euler Society, together with the SCNAT Mathematics, Astronomy and Physics Platform, is organizing an international symposium on October 29, 2022 in Basel.At the same time, this is also the transition to a new phase: All works, letters and notebooks by Euler, the Bernoulli and their environment are to be presented online and freely accessible on a modern digital platform.

Symposium on the scientific work of Leonhard Euler

  • 2.30 p.m.: Prof. Dr. Umberto Bottazzini (Università degli Studi di Milano): «Elastica, Lemnicate and Euler's Addition Theorem for Elliptic Integrals»
  • 3.30 p.m.: Prof. Dr. Jesper Lützen (University of Copenhagen): "Euler's general Analysis versus Applications"
  • 4.30 p.m.: Coffee break
  • 5 p.m.: Prof. Dr. Helmut Pulte (Ruhr University Bochum): «Euler's Philosophy of Space and Time. With a Note on its Reception by Kant»

Anniversary celebration

In the run-up to the symposium, there will also be an anniversary celebration to mark the end of the printed Euler edition on October 28th.
