A Digital Service to Facilitate Recruitment and Retention of Older Cancer Patients in Clinical Trials

This presentation explores the role of patient companions in improving patient experiences and outcomes, particularly in clinical trials for older adults with breast cancer. It examines key factors influencing effective patient companionship, validated through expert interviews and analyzed across different cultural and healthcare system contexts. Building on these insights, the research extends to the development of an LLM-powered empathetic chatbot designed to support patients emotionally and informationally. The talk will discuss findings from expert validations, challenges in cross-cultural adaptation, and the potential of AI-driven empathy in patient communication.
