Perlen-Kolloquium: Giovanni Alberti (Università di Pisa)
The starting point of this talk is a decomposition theorem for sets of measure zero in the plane, which can be deduced from an elementary combinatorial result (Dillworth's lemma). Then I will sketch a few applications to elementary questions in Geometric Measure Theory and Real Analysis, and, if time permits, discuss the extension to higher dimensions. Most of these results were obtained together with D. Preiss (Warwick) and M. Csornyei (Chicago).
