Introduction to finite element error estimates for optimal control problems with PDEs

Many areas of science and engineering involve optimal control of processes that are modeled through partial differential equations. This talk will introduce the theoretical foundation and numerical methods based on finite elements for solving PDE constrained optimal control problems. We will discuss different discretization concepts and corresponding discretization error estimates. The discussion will include the consideration of optimal control problems with control constraints as well as with state constraints.
