Abstract

This talk is about a conjecture concerning 3-manifolds, i.e. spaces that are locally modelled on ℝ³. It predicts the equivalence of three properties: one geometric, one topological, and one group-theoretic. We will first introduce these three properties and then try to gain some intuition by looking at a few examples.
